You can understand by the term that batter testing refers to the process of determining the charge and functionality of a battery. Technicians use a battery tester to carry out the process and come with a lot of prevention measures. The key secret to stopping failures is to check the capacity of the batteries and stop misusing them. To detect any sort of failure, a battery monitoring device is used. The industry is vast, and batteries are used in numerous devices, tools, automobiles, satellites, appliances, space vehicles, and more.
Impedance testing
This test is designed to check the performance of the battery cell and is done annually so that the battery’s performance can be tracked in a year. The advantage of carrying out this testing is that it enables technicians to identify the signs of damage or deterioration within the cell so that they can replace the part or remove a damaged cell. During this industrial battery testing, AC current is given to each battery and finally measures impedance. In the whole process, you get a general idea about the functionality of the battery.
Load bank testing
If you want to know the actual condition of the battery, you have to conduct load bank testing, also known as discharge testing. When batteries go through this testing, it checks them both in normal and peak time. The result shows which cells have the maximum charge and which cells cannot perform longer. This test must be done each year and especially during the time of installation.
Electrochemical testing
Do you know that battery data can be compared to algorithms? By doing this, you get the idea of the battery condition like, whether it has electrolyte dry-out or sulphation. In the maximum cases, electrochemical testing is carried out in laboratories to foresee the conditions of batteries and to stop the failures in space objects and satellites. There are plenty of convenient and movable units through which this test is conducted. During the process, probes are used to measure the response of frequency to voltage, giving a detailed study of the battery condition. Failing blocks are replaced or recharged for their optimal performance
Partial discharge testing
If you go by the name, you can understand that this testing offers something middle ground. In partial discharging, batteries are discharged by 80%. The batteries cannot function further but attain their full potential in the next 8 hours. In this case, you want the UPS to run off the batteries, you can do it in 20% capacity.
UPS Battery Monitoring
This is one more comprehensive and dedicated battery monitoring testing that measures UPS performance. All monitoring systems have certain parameters like AC ripple current and voltage, cycles, string & cell float voltage, stringy discharge current, cell internal resistance, and ambient & cell temperature.
Batteries failing or running out in the mid-way can lead to various issues. These are some of the crucial industrial battery testing methods, which must be carried out to maintain the optimal battery and UPS performance.
